'Tis five days before Christmas and winters' first blast hit in the night. Minus 10 in Erieville this morning. Guess it's global warming that has kept it at bay this long.

The Town Board met with many bits and pieces to clear up at years' end. As you know, the County budget was passed by the Town Supervisors with Dick Williams being one of two to vote against it. It seems to be a problem all over the political spectrum. Politicians just can't stop sending money. In our state they're blaming a lot of it on Medicaid. A worthy cause? Sure. But they'll come a time when someone will have to tell people that they can't have everything they want.

Here's another "mandate" from our knowing leaders in Albany. New voting machines will be required by the year 2006. At a cost of 8 to 12 thousand dollars apiece and factoring in 57 or 58 polling places, this is quite a chunk of change for little Madison County to have to pay for. Did you notice that there was any problem with the machines when you voted in this last election? They do look a little dated. Well, so do I.

Recognition and a gift was approved for Pete Baker and Roy Stearns who gave a lot of their time and expertise in the building of the pavilion in Erieville.

The E-N Heritage Society display at Cottage Lawn in Oneida will be in place only until the end of December. So, if you're out shopping at Wally-world, take a little detour to 245 Main Street.

The ENCA banners are here but unfortunately will not be up by Christmas. Guess the elves are too busy elsewhere. Thanks again to Carol Booth and Shirley Hill for continuing to find sources of money for this project which will be an ongoing and growing one.

A website for and about the community of Erieville and Nelson is about to make its appearance. It is in its infancy stage and needs to be fed. This is one kiddo that needs a Village if it is to prosper and grow. There is no monetary charge to anyone but we are in real need of content. Send contributions to the e-mail address is on the website. Come on everyone, jump on board!

The website address is: http://home.usadatanet.net/geoffearl

Have you been reading the Route 20 Pulse? It's a freebie newspaper that is available at restaurants, antique shops and grocery stores around the area and is delightful. There is a route 20 map on the front page, but Nelson is not on it. Let's get that changed. Pride of place is a goal of a growing number of us here but we need to help it along.

Blessings of the Season to all.

The Erieville Methodist Church community invites everyone to share their Christmas Eve service at 11pm.
